Wondering when your auto-renewal is due? Keep reading to find out!
Renewing your vehicle’s title is important as a valid Florida vehicle title and registration is required to ride on Florida's roads. And vehicle registrations become invalid on the night of the owner’s birthday. This means that you are expected to renew your vehicle on a yearly basis and more importantly, before your birthday except if it is registered under a business.
If your vehicle is registered as a business vehicle, its registration becomes invalid on its first registration date. You can renew your vehicle’s registration for a maximum duration of three months, one year or two years before the renewal date. Whatever category your vehicle falls under, you need to renew your vehicle registration yearly, and here are some tips on how to make this happen:
Renewing your vehicle’s title in Florida can be done in three ways – mobile app registration, online registration, and in-person registration.
Mobile app registration
You can renew up to five vehicles at once on the MyFlorida mobile app. This app is available for download on Google Play and iTunes. To renew your car title via mobile app, visit the MyFlorida app which will request the following details:
Vehicle identification number (VIN)
Plate number
After providing your details, you can also carry out payment on the mobile app. If the app is unable to process your renewal, you might have to try online or in-person registration. Ensure that your records with the FLDHSMV are up to date as this determines if you will be able to renew via the mobile app. If you go through this process and it’s successful, you will be given a printable registration till your actual registration is delivered to you.
Online registration
If the mobile app isn’t working for you, you can visit MyDMV Portal to have your registration renewed. It is required that you provide some personal information of the Vehicle’s owner on the DMV site. After this process, you can use your emailed receipt as a substitute for your renewed registration till your renewed registration is sent to you in the next 10 working days.
For the DMV portal, all online electronic payments are fixed at $2.00 for renewal applications and it is added to the total payment. If you’re still unable to renew it on the DMV website, visit your local county tax collector’s office.
In-person registration
To renew your vehicle’s registration in person, simply visit your local county tax collector’s office with a copy of the following documents:
Vehicle insurance
Payment for renewal
Drivers License
Vehicle registration card
The importance of renewing your car titles and registration cannot be overemphasized. Note that failure to renew your vehicle’s registration before your birthday or your company car’s initial registration date prompts sanction in the form of an additional registration fee of up to $250.00.
